Work Experience at Ballymaloe Cookery School

Thank you for your interest in our Transition Year program at Ballymaloe Cookery School! We do indeed run a popular TY program, and we would be delighted to provide some details.

We have two students with us every week throughout the school year (September to August).

What they will do:

Should we be able to offer a place they will be able to bring a friend. During their time with us, students will gain hands-on experience in our production kitchens, learning about processes such as fermentation. Occasionally, they also get the chance to assist in our glasshouses on the farm. In addition, they will have the opportunity to attend two cooking demonstrations, offering them a broader understanding of various culinary techniques and recipes.

They will be given a lunch each day throughout their week with us.

To Apply:

The sign-up for the program is free of charge.

However, as the program is quite sought-after, we allocate places on a lottery basis due to the high volume of applications we receive. Once we start the allocation process, we will no longer accept any further applications to the program.

The application process for the 2026/27 school year (September to August) will begin in January 2026.

Once the applications process is closed in Mid-March, we will no longer accept applications, add to the waitlist or place your application on a cancellation list.

The allocation process with begin in March 2026

To sign up to the program, let us know the full name, DOB, address, contact details (email and mobile number of both the student and parent) and also the name of the school. Once we have these details, we get you all set up.

Please email caitlinc@cookingisfun.ie with your details and we will add you to our waitlist.
