Spend a half day immersed in the beautiful and versatile world of willow with Irish willow grower and master basket-maker Thomas Delaney. Thomas will introduce students to the different varieties of willow, sharing his knowledge of how this remarkable natural material is grown, harvested, prepared and traditionally used by craftspeople. Discover the many possibilities of willow weaving, from baskets and platters to fencing, garden structures and other beautiful, practical objects.
Following the introduction and demonstration, students will have the opportunity to get hands-on and weave their own small willow project under Thomas’s expert guidance. Whether kept for your home or given as a thoughtful handmade gift to a loved one, you’ll leave with something you have created yourself using a natural material rooted in the Irish landscape and craft tradition.
A wonderful seasonal workshop for anyone curious about willow, traditional craft and the simple pleasure of making something by hand. No previous weaving experience is required — just come ready to learn, create and enjoy an afternoon of making.

The prestigious Ballymaloe 12 WeekCertificate Course is run three times a year, with courses beginning in January,April or May, and September.
The course is aimed at anyone with a passionate interest in food. Many of our students use the course as a springboard to become a professional chef; others use it to equip themselves with a marketable skill.
Others still take the course simply to maximize the pleasure they get from cooking at home.
Students develop a deep and detailed understanding of food and how it is produced. The emphasis is on recognising the best ingredients and knowing how to showcase them.
